This is more of an aviation vlog format for the flying video with a mix of flying, ATC and travel. Our flight started with takeoff on pretty day from the Spirit of St. Louis airport. Enroute we encountered some interesting cloud formations we flew through. Once we start our descent into the San Antonio area the weather clears again, and you get a good view of the area. San Antonio approach vectors us for a visual approach to runway 13 right and the Tower clears us to land. We taxi to the FBO which is Million Air and after securing the aircraft we are treated to fresh cookies.
We have one free day in San Antonio which we use to tour the Alamo and then have lunch on the River Walk. Day three starts of with a dense fog but it clears, and we get delayed so that we eventually takeoff at night. The departure ATIS at the end of the video has an interesting NOTAM referencing a laser strike on an aircraft.
The Cessna Citation Excel is a turbofan-powered, medium-sized business jet That seats eight passengers. It has a range of approximately 1,900 nm and cruises at 410 kts.
.The Cessna Citation Mustang full motion simulator at FlightSafety International Wichita, Kansas. This is a level D or type 7 full-flight simulator. These state of the art simulators give pilots the ability to safely practice emergency procedures without risk to themselves or the aircraft. The Mustang is an easy to fly very light jet, the most challenging aspect of the training is becoming fully proficient with the Garmin G1000 avionics suite. These new jet planes fall into the category of VLJ Very Light Jet, and can be flown single pilot.They fill a specific aviation niche which Cessna seems to be very good at. Unfortunately this simulator and others were destroyed when a King Air 200 crashed into the building shortly after takeoff in takeoff.
A Cessna Citation CE-560 passes low over a train during a training flight. We were doing multiple practice approaches at Scott Air Force Base in preparation for a type ride with the FAA. Scott is a joint use base with the the Air Force on one side and general aviation businesses on the other. This approach was an ILS to runway 32R with a 200 foot decision height. We got the minimums call(200′) as we passed over the train. If you fly, be safe. If you don’t, call your local airport and sign up for an introductory flying lesson.
The Cessna Citation Excel is a straight wing Citation capable of seating 8-10 passengers comfortably in a roomy stand up cabin. The excel was designed with a shortened citation X fuselage, the tail and wing of a Citation V and powered by two and Pratt and Whitney 545A turbofan engines that produce 3,804 lbs of thrust each. The blending of prior successful Citations make this a very impressive jet. It can depart short runways and climb straight to 43,00 feet. It normally cruises at 420 knots and has a 1,850 nm range. The Avionics in the instrument panel pictured here are the Honeywell Primus 1000 integrated digital avionics three screen EFIS system with dual radio control units and two Universal 1C FMS Systems. 30 minutes of emergency attitude display is provided by a Megitt AMLCD backup attitude indicator.
landing in a Citation 550 on runway 4R at Chicago Midway airport. Midway is basically a one mile by one mile square set in a heavily populated area south of Chicago. All of the runways have displaced thresholds due to the close proximity of buildings. KMDW is one of the world’s busiest general aviation airports. It’s a hub for Southwest airlines and the FBO’s serve hundreds of corporate jets and private air planes on a daily basis. This Cessna Citation II is landing on runway four right. Of interest is how close houses are to the ends of the runway.
